Both during the meeting last week and in conversations and posts since then, commissioners have uniformly and consistently mentioned that they wanted to avoid lengthy and costly litigation. While I admire the objective, I think it focuses on the wrong priority for the citizenry. It seems quite likely that having proven that they can be bullied into a settlement that is bad for the county and that informed legal counsel said was premature and unnecessary, the County government has shown its cards: rattle a 7-figure sabre and we will fold.
